The UN requests Finland to deploy eight new military observers for the observation mission in Syria

Press release 98/2012
27 April 2012

The UN Secretariat has asked Finland to deploy eight new military observers for the observation mission in Syria. Previously, it was decided to transfer two observers from the UNTSO mission to Syria. In all, ten observers from Finland are therefore taking part in the UNSMIS observer mission in Syria.

The military observers are preparing to leave for the area during the first days of May.

The President of the Republic has today ratified the decision on Finland’s participation in the observer mission in Syria by deploying up to ten soldiers.
